The Château de Suscinio or de Susinio is a Breton castle, built in the late Middle Ages, to be the residence of the Dukes of Brittany. It is located in the commune of Sarzeau in the département of Morbihan, near the coast of the Atlantic ocean. The spectacular site comprises the moated castle, a ruined chapel, a dovecote, and a few ruined outbuildings.

Suscinio Domain
During the Middle Ages, a ‘Domaine’ referred to a large landed property, comprising a manor or a castle in the center. Unlike more modest seigneuries, the castle or manor of a ducal domain is not he main place of residence for the Dukes as they travel from one domain to another. Regarding Rhuys and Suscinio Domain , which is the complete name, it seems that the Dreux ducal dynasty (13th and 14th centuries) resided very regularly in the peninsula. Then after the war of the Breton succession, during the second half of the 14th century, the new Dukes, the Monfort, stayed there more occasionally. Finally, after the annexation to the crown of France, at the beginning of the 16th century, the domain was not inhabited anymore by its owners and the military function gradually faded in favour of the sole farming, which was generating significant revenues.
